William Tubbs Violin Bow, London, c.1860
A fine English bow previously owned by an Ann Arbor violinist who performed with the Ann Arbor Symphony, Toledo Symphony, the Ann Arbor Chamber Orchestra, & Adrian Symphony. This is a fine and well-preserved example by an important English bowmaker.
The stick is round in shape and is carved from pernambuco marked with a faint ringed figure and colored a medium-light orange-brown. The head is fitted with an ivory plate. The frog is of ebony and silver and has a pearl eye at each of the faces. The three-piece button is of ebony and silver ending in a pearl eye. The shaft is 718mm in length. Weight is 60.6g
Son of British bowmaker, Thomas Tubbs and father to the renowned James and Edward Tubbs, William Tubbs (1814-1878) studied under his father in addition to James and Edward Dodd III.
