When the Cellist is away...

[Same review for both Volume I and Volume II] Since most of the string chamber repertoire requires a cello, these easy and fun trios for two violins and viola are great to have available when your group's cellist is away or out of commission. The viola part is, as one might expect, written mostly on the lower strings. This collection has parts but no score, and there are no rehearsal marks or bar numbers. A minor drawback to this collection is a number of editing mistakes that appear in the parts, but they are pretty obvious and easily corrected with a pencil. Be prepared to encounter these but don't let it deter you from acquiring the set; you'll be glad to have it in reserve when you find yourself without that cello!
