CodaBow Luma Violin Bow

Great bow. Very balanced in terms of weight. Creates good sound.

I just purchased this bow and it is an excellent bow. It is light but not overly so like some other carbon fiber bows can be. I love the tone it produces on my violin! It is very well balanced as well and the tone is clear and very smooth. I would very highly recommend this bow to anyone who is looking for an upgrade or likes a carbon fiber type bow. Your results may differ to mine but I would also very much recommend the Shar in home trial too.

I've had my new Luma bow for a week now and I am really happy with it. It is noticeably lighter than my old Coda Conservatory bow and very easy to handle. My teacher tried it out and praised it for its lightness and for being particularly well balanced. I was concerned that being so light, it might not track very straight but that's not the case and it seems to track (for me) straighter than my heavier bow. The attack and articulation seem very crisp, but I will reserve final judgment until all the fresh rosin gets worked into the hairs. And this is my only complaint: I wish they would pre-rosin the bow with powdered rosin, the way they do at the luthier. I think it will probably be another week or so until I can get the rosin level just right and get a real feel for the articulation. Either way, this is a great bow, very fine-looking workmanship, and I think a really good value.

I've had this bow for about two months and even though I think it's a great bow with excellent quality it didn't work for me. I loved it because it is very light and and responds well but it has a very stiff shaft which does work for others but not with me which made my spiccato very difficult. But if you prefer a stiffer bow the Luma is a good match for you!

I needed a solid secondary bow to play when my other bow is in the shop. I asked them to bring out all of their carbon fiber bows between $500 and $1500 and throw in a few wood bows in that price range. I also asked not to know the price of any of the bows. I played about 10 bows and the CodaBow Luma and CodaBow Diamond GX were the last two bows I was left with. The Diamond GX bounced better and seemed to draw a fuller sound, but the lightness and speed of the Luma was what won me over. This is still an experiment in progress with the lighter bow. Thank you to Tina for assisting me. She understood that I needed time to evaluate the bows and only provided opinions when asked. I've have experience other shop where they are trying to push a bow or violin. It is a highly individual choice and there is very little a salesperson can add. In the end I told her I had a slight preference for the Luma before she gave me the prices. I was shocked when I found out the Luma was a little over $500 and the Diamond GX was $800. If I were in the market for anything under $2000, the clear choice is either of these bows. I'm still amazed at the performance of both of these bows for the price. My only complaint is that the sticker on the frog seemed to be put on with an excessively stick labels. I was a bit annoyed to have to spend 15 minute to get the adhesive off.
