Jerry Bock - Fiddler on the Roof - Violin and Piano - arranged by John Williams - Hal Leonard
When the stage production of Fiddler on the Roof was made into a film, John Williams adapted the original musical score (music by Jerry Bock; words by Sheldon Harnick) to fit. As he explains in the foreword to this work, he needed to fill time while the opening credits were displayed, so he arranged some of the famous themes from the score as a violin solo for Isaac Stern. The result was this dazzling cadenza-filled piece, which Stern performed so passionately on the soundtrack (taking a few artistic liberties with the notes). Of course, it is an obvious choice if you are playing the Fiddler in the musical, but it is also sure to impress audiences and bring flair to a recital!
